Purpose
Defenders learn to close out and “jockey” the offensive player backward away from the goal.

Setup
Mark off two 10-yard squares.
Execution
- Defenders line up at one end, attackers at the other.
- Attacker dribbles past the half line and gets closed out by the defender.
- Defender jockeys the attacker back over the half line. Attacker dribbles side to side to force defender to twist and turn and stay with him or her.
- When finished players go to the back of the other line.
Coaching Tips
There is no tackling in this drill. Defender should be in good defensive position with low center of gravity and arms out wide. Defender should pressure the attacker backward without fouling.
